The video blurred the line between satire and something that could be a sincere effort to smear Ocasio-Cortez. According to The Verge , commenters responded with statements like, "completely moronic" and "dumb as a box of snakes," making it unclear how many people were actually fooled. Although it is not a deepfake, the video increased concern about the misinformation that these types of videos can generate. In May 2019, a slowed-down video of Nancy Pelosi received millions of views and inspired online speculation that she was drunk.

The video was slowed down to make it appear as if she was blurring her speech, and inspired many to question Pelosi's mental state.



The video, although not a deepfak, has been one of the most effective video manipulations to attack top politicians,  attracting over 2 million views and clearly misleading many commentators. The viral danger of video manipulation was on display when Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, shared the video, before Trump tweeted another edited video of Pelosi.
